Our Head of Skills, Heather Thomson gives a summary of our Data Talent 22 student recruitment event that took place on 15th March 2022.
Wow! What an exciting day yesterday as The Data Lab – Innovation Centre returned to Glasgow with our first in-person #DataTalent22 since 2019. There was such a buzz and sense of energy in the room with lots of conversations taking place, between delegates looking to embark on the first or next step of their career in data and AI and a broad range of organisations actively looking to recruit top talent in Scotland.
The event was hosted by Dr. Vanessa Collingridge with keynotes Manira Ahmad and Tim Campbell MBE providing inspiring talks, encouraging delegates to follow their dreams and grab on to the wealth of opportunities available to them, highlighting the huge potential to apply their in-demand data skills to really make a difference for the world and themselves personally.
An address by Jamie Hepburn MSP was followed by a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities in relation to ‘The Future of Work as a result of AI and automation’. The Minister participated in this session hosted by our very own Principal Data Scientist Joanna McKenzie and was joined by Lynne Young, Royal London and Chenyse Semper, Accenture.
A second panel discussion hosted by Paul Matthews, joined by Gerard Scullion, Richard Scales and Alan Bragg ‘Working in the heart of Scottish Government’, provided an insight into the variety of roles and areas in which data skills are in demand within The Scottish Government providing lots of food for thought throughout the day.
The company showcase provided delegates with the opportunity to hear from 15 organisations actively recruiting in Scotland from start-ups to large corporates, with the opportunity to meet them along with many others in the exhibitor hall.
To our sponsors, exhibitors, panellists, speakers and of course our delegates, a huge huge thank you for your support in making the event a success and we hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did.
