Today, The Data Lab is delighted to share with you the first group of selected Fringe Events that will play a part in DataFest18. The Fringe aspect of Data Fest is arguably the most important as it shines a light on the various data communities situated all over Scotland. Events this year will range from Glasgow to Edinburgh to Dundee to Inverness. We were thrilled and astounded with both the quantity and quality of applicants this year and can guarantee there will be something for everyone right across the country.
Events this year will range from hackathons to networking events to thought leadership speakers and lunch meets, with an even more impressive variety of topics. This diversity proves that Scotland is fast becoming the heart of data and data scientists across the world. It’s important to remember that not everything listed is for the technically adept, so if a career in data is something that interests you some of the fringe events will be an ideal starting point. The Fringe will be the perfect melting pot between industry professionals and interested outsiders.
DataFest18 is the second data festival hosted by The Data Lab, after the great success of last year’s inaugural event. DataFest promotes The Data Lab’s mission to position Scotland as an epicenter of international data-driven problem solving. The Data Lab empowers industry, public sector and world-class universities to harness data, and generate its economic, scientific and social benefits The Fringe Events will be a part of over 30 events being held across Scotland from the 19th – 23rd of March.
DataFest18 has a special focus on collaboration, recognising and championing the individuals who use data science to achieve extraordinary things in their day-to-day roles, making them #DataWarriors, whatever their core profession or industry. By recognising such ‘data warriors’, and thereby bringing together different industries, expertise and data, the huge potential of data can be realised.
