DataFest21 Programme
DataFest21 will run from March to November 2021. Following the launch event, there will be three themed weeks of DataFest activities throughout the year, and the festival will culminate with Data Summit.

DataFest21 kicked off with a free Launch Event
Inspiring speakers Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter and Dr Leyla Acaroglu, gave brilliant talks at our Launch Event in March, and the discussion panel including Catherine Stihler was animated and full of great ideas.
We’ve really set the scene for our three themed DataFest weeks – #OurFuture, #OurPeople and #OurPlanet.

Three themed weeks of DataFest activities throughout the year
1: Our Future - w/c 17th May
‘Our Future‘ will tackle cutting-edge technologies and innovative uses of AI and our data.
2: Our People w/c 6th Sept
‘Our People’ will focus on the social and wellbeing aspects of our data use.
3: Our Planet w/c 4th Oct
‘Our Planet’ will cover environmental and climate change themes and how our data can help to shape the future of the planet.
Each themed week will include a DataTalk, DataTech and DataTalent* event as well as various fringe events.
The overarching theme of #OurData will be explored in each of these themes to spark discussion about how we, as data users and as a community, can use data for good to help solve or ease the world’s problems.

Data Tech
Data Tech brings together members of industry, academia and the public sector for technical presentations and discussions of salient topics in data science, to share technical expertise, and engage in networking and collaboration. Now online, three half-day Data Tech events will serve as exciting forums to share emerging research in data science. Together we will continue to explore the potential beyond existing data technologies and techniques.

Data Talent
This is an event for students where they can land their dream job and employers can recruit their ideal candidate. A wide range of employers have stands in our Exhibitor Hall, welcoming the opportunity to talk to the vast pool of student talent. A perfect opportunity for students to talk to prospective employers and find out more about them. Activities throughout the day include speakers demonstrating their innovative data science projects, skills workshops, panel discussions, recruiting company showcases and plenty of structured and unstructured networking time.
Data Talks
Data Talks is a new element of Data Fest. These events, organized and hosted by The Data Lab, will leverage the content of a series of showcase short films which will be developed through 2021 to highlight the exciting data-driven innovation happening across a range of business sectors across Scotland. The events themselves will include screenings of the films as well as discussions and Q&As with the subjects of the films.
